As I begin to set out the details of our 2021 Summer Kula Retreat, I think back to November 2019 when I confirmed my booking at Tilton House. At the time, I thought, “oh my gosh, I have to wait until 2021?! Here we are….nearly March 2021…..to me, it feels like time has flown yet again. Today, as I think back, I realise that we are already nearly approaching one year since our first UK lockdown on March 23rd 2020. Little did we know back then that we would witness and suffer the heart breaking consequences of a global pandemic in our lifetime, and today, still be living with a virus which has claimed and impacted the lives of millions.

What now? ………

We do not know what life will bring us moment by moment. The invitation is to allow yourself to be present in the moment and begin to cultivate the qualities of a balanced heart fire. In Chinese medicine, the heart is considered to be the Sun and the Supreme Sovereign of the body. The Sun is a yang energy, the Earth is Yin. When the heart energy is in balance we feel love, peace, joy, blossoming, growth, expansion. When the heart energy is depleted, we can become restless and withdrawn. Drawing on the Fire element, we will share practices of qigong, yoga, sound and mindfulness meditation, whilst immersing ourselves in natures medicine. Our intention will be to connect to the expansiveness of balanced Fire energy, seek freedom within our hearts and connect to the lightness of yang..

Set in the beautiful South Downs National Park, East Sussex, our host venue will be Tilton House. This Georgian house was once home to economist John Maynard Keynes and is edged by woodland with beautiful views across the Sussex Weald. Our practice space will be in a 28ft yurt and outside in nature. We will be close to the sea, so whilst we are nurturing our Fire, we will be intrinsically immersed in all the elements.

There are 7 twin bedrooms in the property with shared bathrooms. As these are shared rooms, you may want to consider attending with member of your family / friend / support bubble. These rooms can be converted to a double for couples and some allow for triple occupation . There is a limited allowance for single person occupation where required, however this will be in a cabin outside of the main house and to be specially arranged. During our stay, we will have use of the John Maynard Keynes library, sun room and conservatory.

Good food is important and seasonal vegetables are used in all meals served at Tilton House. Meals will be vegetarian with any dietary restrictions catered for.

Movement practices of yoga and qigong will be suitable for all. Although we will use the yurt, I would like us to practice in nature on the hills and overlooking the sea, so we will be walking too!. I will be offering my teaching on a dana basis so the cost of the weekend will cover venue hire, costs and administration. Dana is the Buddhist gift of generosity from the heart and can be gifted at the end of the retreat..

I do hope that you might join me on this heart nourishing weekend. To quote from Mary Oliver’s poem The Summer Day, she asks the question

“Tell me, what it is it that you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Much love,

Yinny xx
